Why is the Counsel member after them? Can they find the sword? Can they save them selves? Who can they trust? What are these feelings they are starting to have? The only problem I see with the story and same for the first book is that some things don't match up with what is written at one time and then written again different? I received a free copy for my honest review."

- Dark Elves and a dragon army. A supremely powerful magic sword stolen which must be recovered. This is powerful stuff, folks, but it is not what makes J.A. Culican’s Embers of Darkness, second book in the Through the Ashes series, so extraordinary. Nope. What does that is the characters, following along as they change as the world around them changes, as they mature personally and as their relationship with each other grows more complex. Bells is still the ever optimist and stubborn Jaekob is as cocky as ever, but both continue reacting off of each other, learning from each other, and growing even if in very different ways. They’re going to be a mighty pair someday (and who knows, maybe even a couple). It’s neat to see it begin. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
- JA Culican never ceases to amaze me with her writing. Embers of Darkness is a fantastic read. I am absolutely in love with the characters, and Culican has continued to build them in a way that I can relate to. I love Bells, her optimistic outlook on everything, and her quirky sense of humor. Jaekob is the character I'd like to shake and scream "wake up"to, yet I love the way he's been built too, cocky and pig-headed. Seeing him start to accept the truths around him, the things Bells has been saying all along, has been great. I can sense big changes coming, good and bad, and cannot wait to see what book 3 brings.

- I loved J.A Culican's writing and this series is definitely making me want to keep reading it. Filled with more twists and magic than the first book, Embers of Darkness keeps readers guessing at what will happen next. Bells and Jaekob make an excellent duo on this journey even if they clash at times. It was great seeing them grow in their own ways and because of their interactions with each other.
- This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. This is the second book in the series I have falle in love with this series. The characters are very strong and the story very well written. I am so glad I continue reading this series.

Lots of twists and turns to keep it interesting and good to see the characters grow . Definitely worth a read. - What a great book. This author writes some of the best books I’ve ever read. Embers Of Darkness is maybe my 3 book by this author I read and I must say I’m enjoying their work
- Such a wonderful story full of wisdom. As Bells and Jaekob continue on their quest to recover the Sword of Fire they encounter many challenges. Ms Culican helps us see how each character works through in their minds what their next step should be, what puzzles them, and the reasons for their decisions. We see in Bells an inner strength and desire to do what’s best and not for selfish reasons even though she has been ill treated throughout her life. We see in Jaekob a force of strength ready to do battle instantly but with Bells influence he learns to think before he acts. She is a puzzle to him but during this second book in this series he gets to know her better and she him. Perhaps there is some romance in their future??? This is a book I can easily recommend to all those who love fantasy.
